Scotland from the Sky
In this film, Jamie Crawford uses remarkable aerial images to find out how the Scots have harnessed our precious natural resources to power the country's industry. He combines old aerial photographs with present-day drone and helicopter footage to tell a range of tales, from a remote loch near Ullapool to the Carron ironworks of Falkirk. From the air it is clear that island of Belnahua on the west coast of Scotland has been almost entirely hollowed out. For here was a thriving slate industry. The deep quarries are now flooded by the sea. It was not until more modern times that the central belt became the beating heart of industrial Scotland. Jamie meets a worker from Ravenscraig who talks about the harsh and dangerous working conditions they had to endure in one of the largest steel foundries in the world, and recalls the tragedy when Ravenscraig finally closed in 1992. Jamie travels to Shetland to follow in the footsteps of his dad who went there to work during the oil boom, to witness the Herculean task of dismantling an old oil platform. And once the oil runs out, a new industry will take its place – wind power.

Scotland, Slavery and Statues
Documentary following the four-year debate over how Henry Dundas should be remembered on the inscription of the Melville Monument in Edinburgh. Sir Geoff Palmer and his supporters have argued for years that Henry Dundas deliberately delayed the abolition of the slave trade when he won support for abolition to be ‘gradual', whereas Henry Dundas’s ancestor Bobby Melville and others argue that Dundas was an abolitionist who was being pragmatic. The programme follows every twist and turn of the story, including how Scotland’s debate triggered a similar discussion in Canada on whether to rename Dundas Street in Toronto, and looks at how events in Bristol impacted on decisions made in Scotland. With historians also debating the actions of Henry Dundas, the programme asks how Scotland as a country can come to an agreement on this and its long connections with slavery.

The Hunt for Bible John
Two-part documentary exploring the 1968 case in which three women were killed after a night of dancing, triggering Scotland’s largest manhunt. The suspect’s now-infamous moniker, Bible John, came after a key witness described a man who picked up women, yet quoted extensively from the Old Testament and frowned on adultery. Despite one of the biggest manhunts in Scottish history, these brutal killings remain unsolved more than 50 years on. The first part of this two-part documentary begins in 1968 Glasgow. Far from the Swinging Sixties of London, Glasgow was in a state of disarray, with appalling living conditions in much of the city and many of the tenement slums being torn down. Life was hard, but Glaswegians had a lifeline in the form of the dance halls. Glasgow was known for being ‘dancing daft’ and boasted many of the country’s top dance halls. But given the city's numerous gangs and hard-drinking reputation, there was always a level of violence simmering beneath the surface. Featuring testimony from some of the detectives and reporters who worked on and covered the case.

The Hunt for Bible John
Second of a two-part documentary exploring the 1968 case in which three women were killed after a night of dancing, triggering Scotland’s largest manhunt. In November 1969, Helen Puttock was found dead after she went out dancing at the Barrowland Ballroom with her sister. She was the third woman to have been murdered in similar circumstances, and Glasgow detectives now feared that they were dealing with a serial killer. Journalist Magnus Linklater recounts the interview he conducted with Helen’s sister Jeannie Williams, who was with her the night she was killed. Jeannie left Helen in a taxi with a man named John, who they had met at the Barrowland earlier that night. Jeannie’s testimony about the mysterious red-haired, smart-suited man with crooked teeth who quoted from the Bible would form the basis of the biggest manhunt Scotland had ever seen. This is the story of that incredible and groundbreaking investigation, and the extraordinary effort made by the police, led by DSI Joe Beattie, to try and find the killer.

My Epic Camel Adventure with Gordon Buchanan
Gordon Buchanan takes an epic journey across the Gobi Desert on one of the world’s most iconic, yet least understood, animals – camels. Starting in the west of Mongolia, Gordeon crosses blistering sand dunes, endless rocky plains and the treacherous Bumbat Mountain, with only his camels for company. If he is to succeed, he must befriend the camels, learn as much as he can about them, and try to win their trust and respect. Without that, the journey and his survival are in question. Naming camels isn’t something that nomads would do, but as his relationship with them strengthens, he decides to name them Squeaks and Chewy. They are lucky enough to meet some of the other inhabitants of this seemingly desolate landscape, such as wolves, saiga antelopes and yaks. But will he be lucky enough to catch sight of the most endangered bear on the planet – the Gobi Bear? Spending time with different nomads also gives Gordon time to reflect on the appeal of the traditional nomadic way of life, and his own modern existence. Ultimately, he discovers how camels have evolved in the most unusual ways to survive and prosper in one of the most hostile environments on the planet.
